Raul J. Diaz – President & CEO
Raul is President and CEO/Executive Director of the South Florida After-School All-Stars.
Raul was born in Havana, Cuba. In July, 1961, he migrated to the US with his brother through the Pedro Pan Program. Their parents joined them in December, 1961. The Diaz family settled in Miami Beach, Fl. Raul attended Nautilus Jr. High School, Miami Beach Sr. High School and Drexell Private Academy. Raul later attended Miami Dade Community College, Florida International University and Biscayne College (Now St. Thomas University). In 1971, Raul joined the Metro-Dade Police Department. He started as a uniform patrolman and worked his way up through the Organized Crime Bureau; the Terrorist and Security Unit; Vice, Intelligence and Narcotics Unit; the Homicide Bureau; and Miami International Airport. During his career with the MDPD, Raul was a staff instructor for the Dade County Metropolitan Police Institute; The US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA); Florida’s Law Enforcement Intelligence Unit; Virginia State’s Police Academy; and other law enforcement agencies. In 1974, Raul became one of two members of the original Minority Recruitment Team of the M-DPD and a founder of the Hispanic Police Officers Association. In 1978 he was selected Officer of the Month and Officer of the Year.
Raul retired “Honorably” from the M-DPD in 1983, with the rank of lieutenant, to enter private practice. During his 13 years of service he received numerous commendations and awards from federal, state and local agencies, private citizens and organizations, and foreign governments. Raul is the owner of ICDA Investigations, a private investigations agency based in Miami, specializing in investigations of insurance fraud. He is certified by the State of Florida’s Department of Insurance as an instructor in fraud investigations. Raul has also earned the designation of Florida Certified Investigator (FCI). In 1993, Raul was appointed to Miami-Dade County’s prestigious Community Relations Board (CRB). In 1996-97, Raul was the Chairman of the CRB. In March, 1997 Raul was the Chairman of the first, US National Conference on Community Relations, held in Miami. In June, 1997, Raul became the first Hispanic to receive the coveted “President’s Award” from the Miami-Dade Branch of the NAACP. Raul is a founding member and past Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Hispanic Police Officers Association of Miami-Dade County and a past member of the Board of Directors of Save Dade. In 1995, Raul joined the Board of Directors of the Greater Miami Inner-City Games Foundation and in 1997 was elected its Chairman. Raul continued as Chairman through the Greater Miami Inner-City Games’ evolution to the South Florida After-School All-Stars Foundation (SFASAS), until October 25, 2007, when he was elected President and CEO/Executive Director of the SFASAS, by its Board of Directors.
Raul enjoys fishing, photography, music and reading. He is married to Elizabeth and they have two daughters and a granddaughter.
Sean A. Prospect – Deputy Executive Director
Sean started working for After-School All-Stars in 2004. He has a Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise Science (2002) and a Master’s Degree in Sports Management (2003) from Florida International University. While attending FIU, he was a two-time All-Sunbelt Conference Track and Field Athlete. Sean also serves as the court manager for the Miami HEAT and is known to the average fan in attendance as Sean “The T-Shirt Guy.” Sean is happily married to his wife, Dawn,, and they have a daughter named Kayla.
Richard McKinley – Senior Program Director
Richard McKinley has been working with After-School All-Stars since 2005. He is a graduate of Florida International University with a degree in Business Administration. Richard was also a four year scholarship athlete, running both the 400 and 800 meter events in track and field. He is the middle of three, one older brother and a younger sister.
Rohan Thompson – Project Manager
Rohan was born on a little known island in the Caribbean by the name of Jamaica. He moved to the United States at age 13 and has been living in Florida ever since. He is an avid soccer fan (A.C. Milan and FC Barcelona) as well as a member of the United States Youth Soccer Association, with experience coaching at the under – 15 level. Rohan graduated from FIU in December 2003 with a B.A. in Psychology and a minor in Marketing. In 2008, a colleague introduced Rohan to the world that is After-School All-Stars and the rest they say is history.
